Quite a few Irishmen competing in this years tournament. Along with the usual quota of English & Scottish and an ever growing contingent of Chinese.
Only one Welshman. Is a pity Reanne Evans didn't quite make it through the qualifiers.
Where are all the world class Canadian snooker players these days. Bygone days of Big Bill, Cliff T, Kirk Stevens etc.

I remember Bill Werbeniuk! (spelling?)

Didn't he have a 'doctor's note' letting him drink lager to counteract his nervous shakes?

(Never worked very well for me)

Enjoying the snooker, but do feel the sport is short of big personalities these days. The standard of play though is formidable. I used to be quite handy on the baize as a young man. A lot of what I learned playing snooker was very useful when playing cocky pool players. Sadly so out of practice now, would take years to get it back.

I used to enjoy a bit of 3-cushion billiards back in the day. like HGT4, I fell out of fit and then embarrassed myself more recently when I took up cue to see if I
'still had the stuff'. I did not.

just back in -selby 9-1 up - still shoot a reasonable game of pool meself - last ball down being the old school rules here on the black!- potting only for me in the sense of pool - people trying to snooker on a pool table just to 'hold the table' - life's too short! - snooker be a different animal altogether - yeah - like the dart's the welsh weighted in - no real personalities/character's any more though - whispering ted/jack (what's his surname?!) -hurricane/jimmy white/graeme miles/perrie mans et al - gu'on ronnie 'n shawn! - feet up and kettle on

After lovable Ronnie's comments yesterday & following bullyboy Barry's responses today; Could the furore be laying the foundations of a world breakaway organisation.
Remember how Hearn treated the Hurricane; Busily licking his lips, whilst grooming Steve Davis's ego during the 80's.
TURD !

Cannot separate the politics of personalities from the game atm.
Murphy comes across as Hearns little lapdog . Great snooker player all the same ;)

There's an interesting (!!) drama on the BBC site for UK folks, called The Rack Pack, which tells the Davis v Higgins story, with particular reference to Hearn.
