When asked which are my favourite Hawkwind tracks I always thought I knew my own mind but itunes tells a different story. The following is my top ten list of most played songs:

Track Album Band Number of plays
The Camera that could lie The Business Trip Hawkwind 167
Once In A Lifetime Once In A Lifetime Wolfsheim 161
D-Rider Hall Of The Mountain Grill Hawkwind 146
Green Finned Demon The Business Trip Hawkwind 140
Void of Golden Light The Business Trip Hawkwind 140
El Salvador Vehicles & Animals Athlete 132
Out Of Nowhere Vehicles & Animals Athlete 132
Right Stuff The Business Trip Hawkwind 131
Wires Tourist Athlete 130
Damnation Alley Palace Springs Hawkwind 129

I would have bet Master of the Universe was on that list but it was in 21st

So come on publish your itunes ( or other mp3 software) top ten play lists

It would be really good if I could see a Top 100 of what I've played over a specified period. Trouble is,

(1) I rigidly seek to prevent any software monitoring or logging what I do. I deactivate libraries and playlists on Windows Media Player, for instance.

(2) I don't use iTunes or Spotify or any other web-based player.

(3) A lot of what I play would be unidentifiable, eg some torrent downloads of gigs only have track numbers... sometimes I later rename them to something more meaningful, and sometimes I eventually convert them to another format, or even change the track divisions where I think the cues are wrong. In many cases, they become - effectively - different computer files.

I just checked mine. But like Graham, I dont usually use iTunes for playback.

Most revealing IMO.

The top.
Ha Ha Ha (Flipper-Let Them Eat Jelly Beans)

The bottom:
Gently Distorted Music Box In A Frying Pan (Conrad Schnitzler-The Cassette Concert Series No.4)

Isn´t life a blast?
It´s just like living in the past
And we go downtown to do our shopping
And we work in suburbia
But I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
He he he he he he he he
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
What is there to do she said?
He said come on baby
And i´ll show you a good time
So they went on down
To one of those cheap motels
And they got all gushy and wet
Well I say
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho
He he he he he he he he
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

@ I of W,
Sorry ipod is having a bad few days but I do remember a few years back, you conducted a poll on here for the all time favorite HW album.
Didn't you do a top 3 or something?
Anyways a band as unique as HW that covers such a broad and wide range of folk, our tastes can be ever fluid.
Was thinking that, if you repeated the process would you get different results

I don't know, but I imagine something that can read "music metadata" would be a good start. Of course, if you play bootleg tracks from somewhere like DimeADozen, the FLAC files won't have metadata embedded, so your Top 100 will exclude them.

If you use WMP (Windows Media Player) then you can set it to keep records of what you play - the option is called "playlist" I believe. Of course, if you then play anything on VLC, RealPlayer, or whatever, that won't be on the list.

I suspect my Number 1 item would show up as "01 Unknown Title - Unknown Artist" :D

I've just had a look at my WMP Playlist and its results are really odd.

Hawkwind - 2 songs
Beethoven -1
Krankschaft - 1
Sonic Assassins - 1
NASA - 1
Unknown - 1

I think this is from when I installed my operating system in 2008 - WMP is part of Windows. It probably took me a few hours before I disabled the playlist option. NASA probably is some Apollo or Shuttle mission audio. I don't remember ever playing any of Ludwig's stuff on the computer - I don't even like classical music!
