Yesterday, on my 180 mile commute to work, i 'found' PXR5.
I've had this for ages, but, like a few HW albums, i have not really listened to it.
There are some great tunes on this CD, anybody agree?
My next post may be about the oft ridiculed Live Chronic(les) which i have started to listen to again, duffer lyrics backed up by some stonking music....

Very prolific time for Brock/Calvert, recording material for Quark/PXR5/Hawklords all in the space of 12 months and all of very high quality, and (for Brock) albums 7,8+9. Quite remarkable.

Second best of the Charisma albums. Considering it's bits and pieces nature it works really well as an album. Robot is presented in all it's storming space rock glory and is the highlight but there's no weak tracks here. The title track has a different feel almost acting as a bridge to the coming direction.

Look forward to bashing Live Chronicles!

Yeh love this album.

Death Trap > Jack of Shadows > Uncle Sam > Infinity has to be one of the best and most powerul exhausting sequences of music on any album.

PXR5 is a fine album. If anything under-rated IMO. There is not a poor track on it which is slightly surprising since it is a bit of a hodge podge of sessions, studio and live.

And there's little wrong with Live Chronicles either.

If it's an "odds and sods" album, then it's pretty darned good, isn't it? My fav at the time, and still now, is USOM.

A brilliant album, one of my all time favourites. One fantastic song after another. And contains the Hawkwind song I like most of all, 'High Rise' - it's even my ringtone!

A mixture of brilliance and filler for me. Uncle Sam's, High Rise, Robot, fantastic. I liked Death trap until I heard the Sonic Assassins version which put in in the shade somewhat. Jack of Shadows was their best pop number. The rest.... filler. So mostly excellent to fantastic.

Filler ? FILLER??? Have this man taken out and beaten around the eardrums religiously until he repents his sins.....only song which could even be close to f(censored)r would be life form

Well the rest is only 3 lol , "Infinity", "PXR5", "Lifeform" and we almost agree on the latter.

"Infinity" never did anything (for me) , and "PXR5" is Calvert-less and it shows.. rhyming race and space and going in a hard rock direction etc though it did show the direction the band were going to go in 1979.. and my opinions on that have been expressed before :). When I compare those tracks to those by the brilliant 1976-78 Hawkwind/lords I felt those 3 tracks were somewhat lacking.

Must leap to the defence of PXR5 as that is one of my favourite tracks. Have always loved this since I first heard it in the early eighties. Liked it even more when I discovered some of the lyrics had real life reference to what was happening to the band, i.e. 'three of our crew did not survive'. A reference to the leaving of Turner et al a few years before. In fact a great song and a great album all round.

High Rise is a phenomenon of neo-space age impressionist art,
even out-spidering Bowie’s invasion from Mars. I can
almost hear Ziggy covering that one, forcing the altering
of one of the lyrics in Moonage Daydream. The whole LP is
chrome-plated ice machine velocet, simultaneously alienating
and endearing … ol’ Ed Poe would be so proud !
