Surely that's one for EMI to invest in. This is what it says about it on Starfarer's reappraisal of Text of Festival.
"One final point, there are inaccurate credits on latter CD releases of this disk claiming it was recorded at Cambridge Corn Exchange 27 Jan 72. That Cambridge gig, billed as a "Six Hour Technicolor Dream" with The Pink Fairies and Syd Barrett, was recorded by college students but it has never been commercially released. If they ever do find this tape and are able to get it out, then we may witness the only surviving Pinkwind performance. Whether it was any good or just an almighty shambles, well..."

It will be interesting to see what happens.Anyone making that kind of investment will surely want ot recoup thier costs and release it. Good or not it's an amazing piece of music history for those concerned.

One would hope the fact it's been recorded by Cambridge Uni students that it's the geeks that did it and it's decent quality. That said, the bar wasn't exactly raised especially high with the Yuri Gagarin recording seemingly from the Gent's Toilet in the pub across the road.

This was very much one of those 'does it really exist' things. Even the people making claims for it and saying it would be cleaned up and released weren't being believed, especially as they said so 5 years ago.
Now it is being auctioned at a bone fide auction house it looks like the real deal and it would very disappointing if it fell into the hands of a collector who locked it away in a draw to go mouldy.

I wonder if you can hear it before you buy. I'd say, can we skip the Syd bit and just get straight to the Hawkwind please. I have friends who went to this gig. they said Syds band were awful but Hawkwind were really good, and they went there to see Syd.

[quote="Pedal Bin"]The Syd Barrett connection will push the price of this up.
Anyone know what the Hawkwind tracks are?
1. Improv 2. Shouldn't Do That 3. Master Of The Universe 4. Earth Calling 5. Silver Machine 6. Welcome To The Future 7. Born To Go

Or we could all form a partnership/company, chip in to buy it and release it ourselves (with obvious permission granted).

I wonder how much HW is on the tape?
This is around the same time as the January '72 Wolverhampton bootleg, so I'd imagine it's in much the same style as that and Greasy Truckers Party... definitely the find of the century, so far!

I just hope it's gone to a decent collector with a sense of right and wrong who will put it out there for every one to hear.
