Seeing HW and Rick Wakeman on the same bill at Crystal Palace set me wondering if there's any affinity betwix Tim and Rick or if they've ever collaborated / performed together in the past ? Just thinking it might be interesting to see Rick do a guest slot with the Hawks - or am I being a little 'left-field' here ?!

As far as I know there's never been any collaboration between Tim and Rick Wakeman. Wakeman with Hawkwind could be interesting, and I can hear in my head how it could work.
I think Tim and Rick have their strengths in two diverse areas, meeting slightly in the middle, so maybe a collaboration would work, but it could also pull apart easily. Tim's keyboards are nifty enough, but his real strengths, to my mind, lie in his ability to shape electronic sounds by non-keyboard means (control knobs etc) and by signal processing (his skilful use of delays seems to be overlooked as one of the major aspects of his sound). So of course that's quite different from the fluid keyboard lines that are central to Wakeman's approach to music. If Wakeman could be more restrained than usual, providing background chords and textures, as in parts of Heart of the Sunrise for example, Tim's playing would work nicely in relation to that, I think. It'd take structuring and composition.
I'd like to hear Tim work with some of the Celtic musicians around Brittany actually, or failing that perhaps someone like the harpist Sarah Deere-Jones and her partner Phil Williams.

It's worth remembering that Wakeman was effectively the fifth member of Black Sabbath for a number of classic albums, so i can imagine him fitting in. Dave did say they needed somebody to fill in the parts Tim misses. Not sure it would work though, I suspect Tim would get cape envy!

As a Yesfan and long time Wakemanwatcher, I'm sure there's been no collab. in the past.
To bring Wakie-poos into Hawkwind wouldn't work in my opinion. Hawkwind's use of keyboards is entirely different (in the last 30 years) to Wakeman's output and interest (of the last 30 years).
Eddie Jobson anyone...?
