indeed - the wimbledon 'insitution' is a pet hate - ginny wade and the like and the strawberry and cream merchants - i don't mind the tennis aspect having said that - speaking of the wombles i think it was chris spedding who said something like 'jeez these outfits really make you sweat' after appearing on top of the pops!

Well, I know where I'm going to be August [correction] 21st !

According to nasa.gov:

For the first time in 99 years, a total solar eclipse will occur across the entire continental US, and NASA is preparing to share this experience of a lifetime. Viewers will be provided a wealth of images captured before, during, and after the eclipse by 11 spacecraft, at least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons, and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

I missed the previous TSE's, for reasons I cannot recall; though whilst living in Michigan at various times during my youth, managed to catch three pretty cool partial eclipses on cloudless days. If weather permits, this will be my first Toto-eclipse !

[Edit]

It will be nearly as dark as a full moon night for several minutes during the day ~ that is rather spooky....I hope to capture some architectural elements against the steely ultraviolet, the corona as a backdrop ~ a once in a lifetime photo op

As someone with a lifelong interest in all matters extraterrestrial, I waited decades for the TSE of August 1999, visible from the tip of cornwall. Booked my holiday well in advance, Hayle, right on the line of totality. Only had one overcast day in the whole week - guess which one. Didn't see a b****y thing. Gutted doesn't even come close.
At least we had a decent local pub, the wonderfully named Bucket of Blood!

I was working at a festival down in Devon during the eclipse in '99 and managed to clear time to get away up onto Exmoor by myself. Despite being heavily overcast it was still an eerie experience as the animals and birds quietened down for the 'night'.

There were so many festivals that very few got enough punters in to break even. The 'big' one I was at was certainly pretty under attended.

It won't be properly full until 14.11 (GMT I think, so 3.11 tomorrow afternoon) so tomorrow night will probably be the fullest moon in the night sky.

As a practicing lunatic (I should really be fully qualified by now! :) ) I'm hoping/expecting to feel a bit less 'loony' next week - until then I'll do a bit more 'wilful loafing' and 'languishing alone in my lair'.
