I been listening to the BBC In Concert recording and Greasy Truckers all afternoon and really got into the deep pounding vibe. It left me wondering what early to mid '70's recordings are the most popular both official and unofficial releases. These are definately two of my favourite. (at the moment) I would say discount Space Ritual as that is an obvious and easy choice. But that would probably be classed as a rule and this being Hawkwind rules are made for breaking.

The 1999 Party is a regular rotational favourite of mine and despite the dreadful sound quality Bring Me the Head of........ In the Egg with its dark humour is edging close to Sonic Attack as a Hawkwind performance classic.

I'd have to go with BBC in Concert a close second to 1999 Party.
We need a proper 1973 official release. Pretty please?!

Official - Space Ritual, the BBC in Concert & ......Yuri Gagarin. Yeah - I know its not really official and its far from pristine sound quality wise but its still head and shoulders above any other audience recordings of the day
Unofficial - Well, the Birmingham Kinetic Playground 1971 takes some beating also Manchester Palace Theatre 1974 - not great quality but THE best 'Warrior at the End of Time' I could probably sit here all afternoon and think of a load more, but........

On my copy DB suffers some guitar problems and Nik's forgotten his sax so there's lots of flute. There's also Bob doing Spirit of the Age as a long poem called Starfarer's Despatch. The whole thing is an embryonic Space Ritual, very interesting.

Anyone going for the 1972 BBC Radio 1 in Concert CD, make sure you get the fresher and cleaner version! Starfarer has more info on this: http://www.starfarer.net/bbc1live.htmlBy the way... the other day, a friend asked me if I could find out who the support was, at a Hawkwind show in 1973 - perhaps through the forum. I was startled when she showed me the ticket: Wembley Empire! Yes, she was at the "Yuri Gagarin" show... not that it was called that, at the time, of course. So I showed her the CD sleeve notes, which include posters and other info.

Has anyone heard the legendary mind journey. Why is there no official release from the 1975 lineups, as there are official recordings of nearly all the other years.

Glasgow Apollo 10/8/75 ? I've got a tape of the whole show - I'm assuming its from the same initial source its one of the better 1975 recordings sound wise, but nothing special
