The current line up is the Hawkwind of today, how sad it would be if it never moved on and evolved into new uncharted sounds. After 27 or however many studio albums and countless live recordings i find it amazing they can produce new exciting music. Why should they stand still playing Space Ritual over and over, that time has gone great though it was. We all have different tastes in all things and just because you like or hate something dont make you right. It's like saying whats the best album ever made.... Whats the best painting ever painted.... Total nonsense we all have a different answer. You will never please everyone, Dave is an experimental musician who has been making music for nearly 60 years. he was 28 when Hawkwind started and had been on the road making music for many years before. I think this line up is trying to make new interesting music..... Hence Onward instead of being stuck in the past. There is a simple solution if you dont like it..... Dont listen to it. We have toured the world many times with this lineup and judging by the crowds we are still getting and talking to fans after the gigs i think your in a minority...... but i respect your choice you cant please all the people all the time....

The thing about Hawkwind is that there is change and we move from era to era. We are in the Morphing era which started with BOTE. The inclusion of Niall and Mr Dibs I think has brought a freshness. Its a seamless change but I see it happening with these new members influencing the sound. I initially didnt rate BOTW to much but it has grown on me. Long may they fly!

Oh come on now.....HW will never end up doing what Floyd did with the Wall:):):)!!!! Bands like HW should never put aside their exquisitely psychedelic origins because if there's one thing that psychedelia does is never get stuck in the past....it's always IN with tyme:):):)

One of the great things about Hawkwind is that each different line up has created a sound of its own. Some will be to your taste, others not. IMHO the current line up is throwing out some pretty good sounds and are potentially capable of much more if they can manage to stay together. Live they have really hit their stride too. When I saw Hawkwind in 2006, I thought that they were on their last legs and I'd found TMTYL a bit of a disappointment. By 2008 they were revitalised and exciting again. I haven't managed to listed to the whole of the new album yet but what I've heard so far sounds good - a few stand out tracks and a few more that will probably only be properly appreciated after a few plays. To me, this is one of the best line ups for some time... I'm sure that there are those that will disagree.

I've never been that much bothered with lineups, or even setlists - to me it's attitude that matters. For instance, if a live 2009 CD is released then I probably wouldn't bother to buy it. Whereas the band were pretty damn good in Dec 2011 and are pretty good on the new 2012 album. But it was the same basic lineup each time. Inclidently, who's "Steve Lee," listed on wikipedia as triangle player for the last 3 years?! Oh, dear, someone's been pissing around with Wikipedia again.

I never really got on with BOTE, thinking it an average at best Hawkwind Album. However Onward is much much better IMO. So new lineup = result in my book; maybe its just taken a couple of albums to gel?

BOTE could have been better! Why o why wasn't Sunship on the CD release? Unbelievable.
I love the track but im reliant on listening to it on You Tube as it wasnt released on CD.
Starshine I still havn't heard as I got the deluxe release.
Why both of those tracks werent on both CD formats has created a bald patch on the side of my head.

I like the current line up. It has evolved over the past couple of years and they are sounding tighter and more confident. Yes I was disappointed when Alan left but I would prefer that the band continued to move forward (Onward!) than being stuck in the past.

I actually managed to unravel the Steve Lee mystery.. I think it's somewhere in my previous posts, if I didn't delete or edit them.. ..it unveils an even greater mystery

Great lineup making great music! Proof in the pudding, a [by Hawkwind standards] stable single lineup, that has produced 2 fresh albums within 2 years of each other (hasn't been that way since early 90's!), and still touring as much as usual. Makes sense to me. Then again, I was raised on this lineup, having only seen one other Hawkwind lineup, the Brock/Davey/Stuart/Chad lineup at my first gig in 2006, so I can't personally compare them very much from my own experiences.
Works though. Dave is the Captain, still firmly at the helm, Chadders is a fantastic drummer, Tim's a keyboard warrior, Niall is a multi-instrumentalist genius and Mr Dibs is a fantastic songwriter and enthusiastic Hawkhead who brings a lot of energy to it all....... it's a bloody brilliant combo!

i think "BLOOD OF THE EARTH" had nice mix of the trademark prog hawkwind and the slightly more popier hawkwind ,as long as they dont get any poppier than tracks like "sweet obsession " (which i really like) then i would imagine the new album would have something to please everyone ,but as usual its down to the indiviuals opinions and moods ,and keeping in mind that some of my all time favorite albums have been "growers" where the rewards dont come until its had several plays ,whatever every new "WIND " album is an adventure
