This promises to be quite interesting... 'Beware of Mr. Baker' Preview of Ginger Baker documentary March 1, 2012 | By Rolling Stone If you've got a problem with Ginger Baker, go ahead and hit him in the nose. He'd welcome it. "I ain't gonna sue you. I'm gonna hit you back," the crazy drummer tells the camera in this trailer for the new documentary Beware of Mr. Baker, which screens multiple times at SXSW in Austin beginning March 10th. Eric Clapton, Johnny Rotten, Carlos Santana, Charlie Watts and Neil Peart are just a few of the legendary musicians who attest to the musical gift of the drummer, best known for playing in Cream and Blind Faith before discovering the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti. Most of them can also vouch for Baker's ferocious approach to life. "Maybe you have to be a little mad to play the way he does," says Marky Ramone. the man's a legend, and the Royal Albert Hall performance by Cream in 2005 proves - what a drum solo ! - he's one of the best drummers to have pioneered heavy rock. Ginger with jazz legend Max Roach and his wife at verona jazz festival June, 1995

"... only time I've ever seen Baker without a cigarette is playing the drums ..."

A revisit by Ginger wouldn't hold a candle to the return of The Houndmaster. Simon King blew Baker's doors off as the quintessential Hawkwind drummer of that era. I can't see Simon King ever having fit in with Cream either...but I'm a Hawkwind fan and couldn't give a space rat's ass regardless. Chadwick's the nuclear drive engine now. Liftoff.....

well, the key-phrase is "sit in" ... as in guest appearance. King was perfect for the era in which he played, but I wouldn't have either him or Baker replace Chadwick. I thought I read somewhere that Simon auditioned for hawkwind in the 80's but was turned down (?) Baker is better suited to play jazz or afro-beat than spacerock anyway.

Richard must be the slickest, he's also emerged a new kind of star with the comedy bit on BOTE bonus CD... When I played that a couple days ago, I noticed even the noodling musical parts were actually damn good.... And cheers Richard.....

Absolutely... Huw'y was immortalized during "Dust Of Time". I thought Hawkwind was finished in the late seventies until Levitation came out. What a relief when I walked into a record store and saw that big Hawk displayed on a 'new releases' display rack. Keep'em coming Cap'n!
