speaking of lighthouse, this is now very old news, but just in case: there is an unreleased and updated version tacked onto the end of "the very best Hawkwind album ever" comp CD, along with a dashing unreleased version of "Love In Space". They are also on the "Masters Of Rock" CD, I think it's called, which is the same CD, and maybe easier to get hold of.

I love the way Moonweed taps his feet. First one foot, and then the other. Left, right, left, right. Mummy, daddy..

Made a new thread in Hawkwind Chat..
but But....but.........but.....my extremely pretentious "very best Hawkwind album ever" has the Rizz vox IN!!! So you're telling me I have 2 CD's of In Your Area and they are CENSORED with the best part of that edited out???? Or does this CD also lie and it's the same version on all, or, is it a bonus on an esoteric remaster jobber or something??? ps- OR, are you saying this versions is simply edited and the IYA version has more Rizzz to try to save us from the Mayan winter solstice?? (which might have been a good thing if humanity had got over iteself) ps- OR, is it Ron making me think he's Rizz??? OR, could the "masters of rock" comp (or whatver it's called), differ from mine?

JephraimToe wrote:I used to have the CD before the great fire, but now you're gonna make me have to spend 89p to find out the truth. But the Masters of Rock version is called edit and is about 3 minutes long. The In Your Area version (once you've negotiated the bad track listing) is much, much longer than that due to Rizz's telling us how we need to leave the rat race and join the human race (or was it the other way around?).. Only now I can feel myself getting anal about the discography and I'm feeling loathe to spend the 89p on principle
Listen I might be able to help? while I've never been the one to do technical comparison work, and at the minute my IYA's are going to require a dig, so for now I can say This Netherlands version does have Rizz saying what you describe, but this CD only calls it "previously unreleased", and I think the notion of an edit would likely still apply. Of course the CD cover photo is another potential problem ))

there is no Wikipedia page for “Out Of The Shadows”, just a videography listing of 2002 (recorded?), whereas Allmusic lists a release date of 2007 for DVD, 2008 for CD. The 2002 concert that is ‘Spaced Out In London’ features Arthur Brown on vocals along with Brock, Davey, Blake, and Chadwick. it might be a fair guess that’s the line-up on Lh in question(?) further research into Amazon’s customer reviews (if reliable with no reference) uncovers posts that state the line-up is the above mentioned one, and including Huw as well,, and that it was filmed at the Opera House in Newcastle, UK on December 4, 2002. these are four and five-star reviews and are enthusiastic recommendations to own this. allmusic lists a 2008 CD release on Dream Catcher Records, and a DVD on the Snapper label.. Amazon lists : 17 new from $10.97 / 5 used from $18.22 for the audio CD, listing the label as Dream Catcher wondering if that is, in fact, A.Brown on the vocal ...

I just listened to the Out of the Shadows DVD interview with Dave.. He says this gig is tosh and that they actually filmed a much better one themselves..
[ ... ] and I noticed Dave keeps saying "onward" between all those all well-known numbers..

JephraimToe wrote:Yes, Arthur Brown was a member of Hawkwind at that time but he doesn't sing on every track. Huw also plays on the DVD in addition to what you listed. Overall I think its the best, most intimate look at the working band known as 'Hawkwind' on DVD, playing an ordinary average gig with all the chaos that entails. No DVD was planned but an independent crew had turned up wanting to make one. The quality is excellent and so is the line-up. However, there's always a downside with Hawkwind DVDs and in this case Arthur Brown had not rehearsed properly and didn't know the lyrics. But that's kind of entertaining in itself. If you haven't bought a Hawkwind DVD yet, this is the one to get I should say.
Spaced Out In London is a live album recorded later in the same tour so they sound a little bit more together by then, but Huw had left due to ill health.
One thing we would love to hear would be a proper recording (not bootleg) of Arthur doing Steppenwolf. There must be some around but so far nothing released. I think he did it the following year or so with Simon House back in the band, at about the same time Arthur had released his own Vampire Suite.. One for the next anthology release please if the band is listening..
that would be great,, Steppenwolf is an absolute favourite. I put the CD and DVD of 'Shadows' up at top,, with Onward on wishlist: ))

caution noted. I'll get one on the strength of Lighthouse, and wonder where on earth that "much better one" ended up (?)

hey. my own caution wasn't so much over this. While Jephraim seems to know more, I wasn't paying close attention when this (Out Of The Shadows) came out (because I couldn't) but I do remember the video and CD seemed to come at around the same time. So I thought. I donlt think we're sure about the CD, or the quality. Maybe someone else will say something. I can tell you that Live Legends was about the highesst quality Hawkwind video that existed back when I had a video collection, and this is highly recommended, if you want to watch Hawkwind!!
