The reissue of this from Atomhenge arrived the other day. Jolly nice it is too, although I'm not sure I really like Malcolm Dome's liner notes generally - they seem a little lightweight, but at least he interviewed Dave about this one.
Haven't really heard this in years, my record collection got stolen about 6 months after buying this the first time round. I do feel that before listening to a new solo album (or indeed a new Hawkwind album for that matter) that I should brace myself for a degree of recycling. I thought he overdid it on this album - at least two tracks lifted from The White Zone, seemingly without any modifications, not to mention two reworkings Space = Space is Deep and Bosnia = The Death of War. I kinda feel this would have been a great album if all the material were new. Then again, I always feel they should just use new material.
Good album though, and it sounds great on this remaster. Little frame of reference though like I said.
Bizarrely it's still not listed on the Atomhenge site. Sadly Cherry Red seem to be mostly concentrating on other bands in recent times. Part of me wonders whether the Hawkwind/Dave Brock content either just sells itself or doesn't sell as much as they'd like...

I've long gotten used to the re-cycling on the albums and now quite enjoy hearing a different slant on an old track, but yes a completely new album would be nice. As for the Atomhenge situation I have been wondering about that for a while, the re-issue program seems to be slowing to a trickle and I hope it doesn't come to a halt. I never got an e-mail from Atomhenge about the release of this or Business Trip, a service that seems to have stopped with the update of their website and instead heard about it from CDS. I remember the days when we used to get two or three releases at a time two or three times a year. I have thought that sales are not what they could be. Not that my bank balance is complaining as I do like to get everything and I'm one of the people who had it all to begin with!

I did get a mail with the Business Trip on, but it was within a more general Cherry Red email. Maybe you should remind them?
I like Strange Trips and Pipe Dreams, but I still have the original CD. Is there a difference worth buying it again?

Regarding the differences: Like I said, I have little frame of reference - having got my original copy stolen in about 1997ish. There's a bonus track which is the version of "You Burn Me Up" from The Elf and The Hawk compilation. This sounds remarkably similar/the same as the version on Spacebrock.
Regarding the recycling, I don't mind different versions. For example I think I prefer the versions of Heads and Wasteland of Sleep on the Agents Of Chaos album to the versions on the Xenon Codex. I can hear no difference between the versions of White Zone and Pipe Dream on this to on White Zone.
That said Space and Bosnia are different sufficiently different.

I'm pretty sure I got a newsletter from both Cherry Red and Vicky about this release (and more recently The Business Trip), though only weeks after I found out about it through an online shop...perhaps something happened to their data?
Another excellent release!
I do miss the Atomhenge logo on the CD spine, though (I think there are a couple of others that don't have it). I'd prefer more in-depth linernotes in general (eg, not a mention about the Hawkwind versions of some of the tracks; and some more info on the concept and title would've been nice), but perhaps there's only so much to say about certain albums, who knows.
Great album, great reissue, great artwork! Keep 'em coming, Atomhenge!

The Atomhenge logo is also missing from Agents Of Chaos and that's all, it was on the first Dave Brock re-issue for some reason but not the following two. It would be nice to keep a uniform look on the spines as they look good on my shelves. I can also say that I did indeed recieve an e-mail from Atomhenge about this after all but it had found it's way into my spam folder. Don't usually check in there either just hit delete without looking to see what it contains but I did recently for some reason, so not Atomhenges fault but yahoo mail.

I finally got an email from Atomhenge about this and the upcoming Business Trip album, but only a day after I received Strange Trips. Bizarrely they said that both album had been added to their website. Neither have. The new site hasn't been updated since it was relaunched, and I have tried refreshing it. Strange.

You are right. "New releases" is empty. The well is almost dry-- they seem to be more focussed on other releases now- like Bill Nelson, for Be-Bop Deluxe fans
