 If you want one band on over and over one after another many at the same time, the same old thing with thousands of idiots like sheep in £80 wellies.............you should go to Glastonbolox.
Hawkfest is more than that.If thats what your after,go and spend hundreds at one of them. This is for mainly Hawkwind fans but trying to bring back the real festival atmosphere of something different ,things you have'nt seen before or again. It's a meeting place for old friends and new. circus or arts workshops ect. The bands are just part of it. Anyone who knows what's being put into this will know it's for Hawk fans and Dave and Kris are doing it for them. If you wanted another crap mega festival you'd have 20000 tickets.Anyway the people that matter will know the score............

he he i am listening to an audience recording of HW at last years Hawkfest that some generous soul saw fit to send me, whoever you are thank you soo much for this treat 8)

must admit it got me drooling for more (yeurgh).

i have lots of audience recordings of stuff and its inevitable the quality suffers from too much crowd 'ambience', however this is different.

i dunno if this is gonna sound too nuts, but being hawkwind fans nothing should be TOO nuts!!!
somehow at the last hawkfest, against all odds, all recordings i am aware of, not least the mychoonz video footage, came out extraordinarily well.

a combination of perfect balance between lighting and sound equipment set up to it's optimum. a lot of care and consideration went into it.
the results were stunning, and the folks who made it happen are to be admired for their skills and determination whilst nature tried to call everything to a halt (how would YOU stop the generators from sinking in the mud?).

my point i suppose is that hawkwind and friends go to a massive effort to make sure that everything the fans experience at a hawkfest is at the best it can be made to be.
this is a rare commodity, a band that basically throws the ultimate party as often as they can for the fans!

its a lot of hard work, as it must be for other festivals, but this, i have seen with my own eyes, is so much more.

i feel like i became part of a true 'family' where the artists were amongst the fans and vice versa.

like my esteemed 'brother' says, if you want heartless, commercialised, profit driven, overpriced services and general disrespect there are plenty of events going on that will cater for you.

however, i think all my 'brothers & sisters' would agree, a Hawfest is indeed 'The Right Stuff' ;)

Um, if it's not already been suggested, and it's OK with the band & anybody else involved, would it be possible to produce a DVD/CD as a limited release for sale at the next Hawkfest? Or is this an idea destined for Damnation Alley? :)

Maybe this is an echo of the above post, but will CDs be made available of the Hawkfests (like 2002 was) for fans and/or passport holders? Such as for those of us in the U.S. that may not be able to make it?

the footage we shot was specifically for the private use of Dave and Kris, there were very few of the bands that were audio recorded which would make stuff of a lower quality.
having said that i know that the hawkwind set WAS recorded to minidisc from the sound desk.
i would love to edit the set and use the soundesk recording for it, but release is something i very much doubt, sorry

 Some people i've read on here don't seem to realize that Hawkfest is a private party for Hawkwind fans, not a rip off multi million pound money pit of hell like GlastonBolox.
The band are doing this just for the fans and i know they have got into debt doing it or at the best make the cost back!
I just don't know why these people come on here and moan and slag it off.Last year a negative review of the Hawkwind set was posted the day before they had even played.(me smells a rat here)
Like my man said last year was a miracle with the rain and mud and underwater generators. How many Bands invite fans to their wedding ?

Last years Hawkfest was quite brilliant, despite the torrential rain. My son (12) who accompanied me into the tent for Hawkwinds set, keeps on reminding me about it.. everytime I play any Hawkwind he shouts "Come on Dave".. which was being shouted by some fella just behind us before the band actually started. I hope to be there this year even though it's a fair hike from Yorkshire.

The first year of H/F in Devon a group of intrepid explorers from Yorkshire did attempt the daunting trip to East Devon....they were never heard of again!
Some say they were eaten by the native Devonians but this is not true. What really happened was they were chemically labotomised by a local poison known only as 'scrumpy'. This removed the part of the brain used to find the way home. They were then used as breeding material by the local scary maidens until exhaustion set in. Then they were allowed a field of their own where they live till this day. Sometimes on a quiet night you can hear their screams of 'ooh aarrr ba gumm'
