I was just wondering if Tim Blake was going to appear at this years hawkfest as i know as unfortunate as it was he couldn't appear in the flesh last year and it would be really great to see him perform this year. I know he is doing the tour with Hawkwind in March but just in case im unable to make any of those dates the festival would be a bonus too. Peace love in Space Bev x

 Tim seems to be on form at the moment,he spent last year shall we say housebound. So it was no surprise he was up for the winter Hawk tour (could tell you what it was like on the bus but then i'd have to shoot you then myself ) Like you said he's on the March tour and i hope as long as he enjoys it ,the rest of the year. I'm sure he'll be there if he can,he would have been at last years but............
This year should be good, with more variety .Workshops ,Theater, circus anything fun and different. It's hard because it all costs more to do,but with 1000 people the same as years before. Some people on here don't seem to realize this is a private festival for Hawkwind fans, not a money making scheme like Glastonbolox!
Hope to see ya there and i hope you get to some of the tour!!!!!

seen Hawkwind around 40+ times, but never been to Hawkfest yet......so loking forward to breaking my duck!

sounds an absolutely enjoyable festy, small and intimate , just the way I like it, and in East Devon as well, bliss!

Would just like to add that Iwould also love to see Mr Tim Blake at the hawkfest.

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Tim play at Eastern Haze and Exeter Phoenix a few years ago, absolutely brilliant!
It would be a joy to see him again, with Hawkwind and hopefully a solo turn as well.

Must find me passport to reserve me tickets.....in under a mound of paper....somewhere......!

Yes i also had the pleasure of seeing Tim at Eastern haze and the first hawkfest in Seaton in Devon i was that out of it i cant recall seeing him at the second hawkfest and i know the circumstances of why he couldn't attend in the flesh at the third. I admire all the bands that play at hawkfests and i know that there not in it for the money. to be honest i wouldnt attend a festival like Glastonbury or the like as they are now to commercial for me but mainly because i like the friendly family atmosphere of hawkfests where you feel like you know everyone there just through talking on here or myspace etc. yes i will be there, i wouldn't miss the 4th just like the other 3 peace love in Space Bev x

apart from the odd re-union, I wasn't aware that Tim had played for Gong since about 35 years ago!

For your information, from the Gong forum:

My High spirits were downed this evening by this e-mail from
Daevid Allen

I thought it best to pass it on to all of You, and my hastilly written , instant reply, before contacting lawyers or 'two of my friends'

Things look both good and bad, but I , for one , had thought we'ed got round this crap:

Dear Moonweed,
Just listening to Angels Egg & remembering all of the long white nights
tripping & jamming with you at Pavillon du Hay.
Not to mention the many extra-ordinary experiences on stage we shared.
Now Gong is moving on into a new incarnation & there is a genuine hope
in my heart that we can make new exciting music once again.
It was great to have you at my side & share the Uncon with you & feel
your thunderous subs & wild swoops spinning around me.
But I now intend to move in a new direction with the band & I feel its
only fair that I should be clear with you that I want to work with a
different synth player.
This is not based on anything personal because i love you dearly but
rather because your technique & musicianship represents -to me- the past
rather than the future.
So for me personally to be employed in the new Gong lineup I need to
move ahead without you.
I guess that you probably sensed this already but I just need to be
super clear with you out of respect for you & everyone in & round Gong
so there is no confusion.
I hope you can absorb this info without too much regret.
The Gong in the 70's CD was really my personal gift to you to help
soften the blow & was my attempt at lovingly kissing you goodbye.
There is a potential GONG gig in London in the summer and hard as it is
to say all this, I really couldnt wait any longer to break this news to
you.
Obviously I feel you are forever a member of the Gong Global Family and
as such are always welcome to play with whatever combo you choose in
future Uncons and of course at the Bordeaux Museum Exhibition.
But deep down I know you will appreciate this directness in clarifying
that I want to replace you from now on as a continuing member of Gong.
Let me know how this affects you please and don't feel for a minute that
there is anything personal in my decision.
Love ya man & look after yourself,
x
daevid

SO, to be just , I replied this , from moonweed@free.fr:

Yes, I saw Your Brazil Gigs..... So , start by writing some New Music ,
Daevid !
Make a New Band, I'll support that... find a New Name, I'll support that
too...
But , so far as Gong is concerned, tidy up the "Unfinished business" first,
it'll make a reincarnation so much more genuine !
As far as Gong is concerned, I'd prefer be taking my place , untill,
officially (and that includes financially) ,
I'm paid off !
I'd rather not this becomes a hassle, In fact, I even drew up a "Unilateral
Truce",
but if you insist................

As far as mooving ahead is concerned , I'll repeat the first line of this
e-mail !
Of course , my total Gong holding, like everything else in this world, is
negotiable ....
But I will allways take position as a person who has fully paid off my share
of the enormous amount of debt my 'departure' from the '75' band left me with.

I have read your comments about "Composition" on the Gong Bordeaux thing, and to be honest & clair to you too, I thought that , for someone whose contributions to 'You' were written a long time before
(You Tube reveals all) you were not being really "Open" !

I have no choice but to take note of what you say here , ( and it's more
than unpleasant to read!) but I can hardly accept that You should continue to play music written or part written by me in such a fiasco !
Alerts have allready been put out in the case of You continuing to use my
copyrights , and part held copyrights, under different names,
and with different assignations .

This is stupid, as the only solution will be unpleasant for both of us,
as well as being a personal embarassement for me, in the view of recent
legal appointments in the UK.
I would , of course had many POSITIVE suggestions to be made about Future GONG music. It seems that You have decided not to bring this to mind, unfortunately!

As far as this is concerned :
" This is not based on anything personal because i love you dearly but
rather because your technique & musicianship represents -to me- the
past rather than the future." Try saying it to the Mirror !

Sorry to have read this , Old Friend, Sincerly!
I had been looking forward to celibrating the 40th Year of Gong with You,
and others ! I'll transmit these mails to the fan base, & we'll let them decide .

T

So ...... Not up to me anymore , is it!
Tim

According to Tims own website he will be at Hawkfest. I'd love to see him do a solo spot as well as play in Hawkwind, I remember seeing Crystal Machine at Glastonbury back in 79 I think it was.

I am getting so excited about Hawkfest. I feel like a kid in a sweet shop as all these people pop up and it opens another avenue of music to explore. Since Astoria, I have manged to source New Jerusalem. Great stuff.

Reading the Tim Blake / Gong stuuf makes me very sad - it's not like there's enough of our heroes playing as it is, without the possibility of bad blood.

It seems like there's a lot of it about - Hawkwind has had it's share, the Beach Boys, Procul Harum - even 'newer' bands like UB40 (blimey, that shows my age).

In defence of the Dave Brocks / Daevid Allens etc. of this world (not that they need my input), whilst there are legal issues regarding ownership of material, bands reflect life and move on otherwise they stagnate and die, either creatively or because the audience simply goes off somewhere else. I can't remember how many straight jobs I've had in my career, never mind working in a fluid, creative environment where the audience and personal satisfaction demands continual reinvention and change.

The best thing to say to Tim B. is ... your contributions as a solo artist and to Hawkwind and Gong are incalculable and, to me and a lot of people I know, you're always welcome to play at any gig that we're at.
