I've just been sorting out my old cassettes and found a bootleg album called The Hawklords Demos 1978. Initially I thought it was one of the Weird tapes but apparently not. It has familiar Hawklord demos and Dave Brock solo stuff. Besides having the Wired for Sound bonus track from the Atomhenge reissue of Earth to the Ground it has a long version of British Tribal Music which has a nice sequencer start and includes an "Oh my fingers they must ache" chant and some mad organ bashing later on. This version is not mentioned in the Hawkwind Codex and all versions seem to be the four minute version. This one goes on for about nine minutes. Has this version appeared anywhere?

The tapes a bit knackered and so is my cassette player but I'm going to try to get it into a digital format.

That's a new one on me, as is the Atomhenge reissue of "Earthed to the Ground". Did they release that in secret as it certainly passed me by.

I should have said Voiceprint rather than Atomhenge.

The Earthed to the Ground demo is on the Agents of Chaos/Earthed release.

I also have Oh My Fingers They Must Ache (from typing this song title?) on an old tape from way back when clocking in at about 8.30 IIRC but too muffled to listen to. I would like it to be released in all its original glory along with Wipe Out In The Streets pretty please?!

It got sped up and remixed and became the mental British Tribal Music track but I have 2 versions of BTM, so that makes 3 versions of the same track.

This is the version I have. Hopefully this will allow you to download. Need to work on it a bit but this version is OK despite the noisy tape.

Thanks very much for that, grahawk! Had the 8 minutes+ version on tape, but most of my tapes have deteriorated, unfortunately.

FWIW my version is actually better than I remembered. It has more base sound and is as clear (vocals a bit more prominent too - you can make out the fake-phone voice in the background) but ruined by massive hiss! It clocks in at 9.09 instead of 9.05. It's a great fun track, sat on the shelf and tinkered with later on a bit like the Beatles' What's the Name Mary Jane.

My 2 versions of Wipe Out in the Streets really are almost inaudible though. I can see a Dave Brock release of 70's stuff going down a treat...

Well Dave has just said in an interview that Atomhenge have bought all his solo stuff so we may yet see rereleases of these...

Atombrock - what a great title! Raping robots was on the recent Earthed/Agents CD but still sounds a bit murky. I reckon it's the best you're going to get.

"Oh My Fingers They Must Ache" exists (somewhere out there) as an independent, bootleg item. I remember a dealer I used to buy from in England was selling it in a 45 single format (99 and 9 tenths certain of this) just before he moved here to the states...and became a personal friend....
Now I'm just wondering how it fit on a 7", and confess I wish I'd bought it/////

anyway, please excuse another post but I correct myself when giving wrong (bad) info, and the "Oh My Fingers They Must Ache" was an intended actetate that was never cut and it does NOT exist....
