Hey. Remember us?
I know, it's been a long time. If I were you, I probably wouldn't speak to us either. Actually, that's not strictly true. I've always been one of those people who could not hear from a friend for years and then all of a sudden see them and it's like old times, hanging out on the jungle gym, annoying everyone within earshot and getting sick from too many popsicles. Only these days we'd probably substitute "bar" for "jungle gym" and "beers" for "popsicles", but whatever. The point is, life sometimes gets in the way of constant communication, but that doesn't mean you've been forgotten.
In this case, ToD's life communication-preventers have taken the form of minor annoyances like internet troubles (BT Broadband: goober-assed goobers), day jobs (we have a hairspray habit to support during these lean financial times), and moving flats (hence secondary entanglement with broadband).
The major reason for lack of radio silence is one that we hope will make everything all right between us again: THE ALBUM.
'Tis true, we nearly have one. In fact, all but one track is mixed and ready for mastering, and even that one is a few tweaks away from our shambolic idea of perfection. At the moment it looks like it's going to be 13 tracks of nipple-raising sleaze, and we've optimistically - but not unrealistically - decided on a late September/early October release. It's going to be CD and digital, and you should be able to get it from most decent shops - I was pretty astonished to see that Amazon stocked the Iron Nipples / Diva Breakdown 7", and we're on Spotify too. Our distributors clearly rock.
Anyway. Those 13 tracks. A few that will definitely be making an appearance, in no particular order include:
This is a Bust - that perennial live favourite, mastered and ready to go.
High On Heels - a 3 minute rifftastic vaguely Deep Purple-inspired juggernaut.
Twin Peaks - David Lynch will worship and fear us.
Hairy on The Inside - Hey there Little Red Riding Hood, you sure are lookin' good...
Love Bite - Lux-ious stomper of a bitchfight.
Titillation - Your name is DOG, dawg.
You'll get the rest when I think of some more misleading descriptions. Or maybe I'll just stick one of the new tracks up on Myspace. By the way, we've got a track up there now, Juggernaut, which isn't going on the album but is earmarked for a release on our friend Fitz's label. He's off tour managing some bands - Black Dice I think - so he hasn't got round to releasing it yet. What do you think of it? It's not typical ToD fayre - it's 11 minutes long, and we've never played it live. Should we?
Contrary to popular belief, we haven't been practicing gig-avoidance*. In fact we played an AWESOME one at the World Zombie Days Zombie Prom in April. I don't mean to say that we were awesome (but we were), but that the WHOLE GODDAMN NIGHT was. First and foremost, there was fake blood. And entrails. And alien births. Bizarre Magazine was there and took a lot of photos for a big spread in last month's issue, and it's all now online here.
We also had Zombie Prom Portraits taken. Or rather, everyone else did, we did group shots which look great. Except the one which looks suspiciously like I'm grabbing Kitty's arse in it but before you start accusing us of being boner dykes, I swear it's just the unfortunate juxtaposition of my hand and a shadow.
And there was of course, the ROCK. It was only the second time we ever played Twin Peaks live, and despite us not having really rehearsed anything in ages, everything was just perfect. Friends of ours who would have no problem telling us if we were having a rubbish gig assured us it kicked ass, so I feel confident in passing along this report of excellence.
But enough about the gig you missed. We do have another one coming up, in Ipswich on July 10th. It's at a new venue called QJam, and as I've never been to Ipswich, I can't really tell you much more than that. It's £3 to get in, so maybe it's not so much of a hassle to get there if you live elsewhere east-ish.
There are others in the pipeline, London ones mostly, and I promise we will give you a decent amount of notice. We'll also be putting on some sort of free gig around the album launch time (I really hate when people put on gigs and call it a party, but then they want you to pay to get in). In the meantime, Debra and I have been DJing a lot at the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes for the Shake Rattle and Bowl night. it's a 50s and 60s night, and we play a lot of the stuff that influences ToD - girl groups, rockabilly, garage rock, surf, exotica, and soul. Well, the sould doesn't influence ToD much but it's all good. We're also doing our own night, title as yet tbc, at The Haggerston in Dalston on July 23rd.
That's all for now. More soon. Seriously.
xx
Titania.
*For the record, we did tell you guys about this Parade of Awesome beforehand, not that I'm rubbing it in or anything, but someone emailed us and (gently) admonished us for not playing any gigs since last October.
