Any word yet on how this one went? No update from Starfarer yet, and I've seen nothing on this forum.

All I've seen is two tweets on Twitter:

One said, "Standon Calling and the queue for the cowshed disco is ridiculous, and so were Hawkwind!"

And the other said, "Friendly Fires rocked, Hawkwind predictably shit, The Fabulous Penetrators ----ing SMASHED IT!"

TFP are some sort of indie garage band, I gather, so that latter assessment probably doesn't amount to much.

I got some bargain tickets for Standon Calling on Ebay....wasn't planning on going but I couldn't resist......Strange liitle festival, it began life as a private party 9 years ago!!

Sound problems & power cut in the huge dome tent meant the Hawkwind set began at 12 instead of 10pm...Not their best gig, they played for less than an hour and it never took off. They soundchecked Farenheit 451 but didn't include it in the set, and Captain Brock joked it was past his bedtime.

Good visuals...Not a Hawkwind crowd - not surprising with £89 tickets...There was a stall handing out samples of Ardbeg Whisky, I had a chat with Tim Blake there....he was given a free bottle, I wasn't!

I was there, I have not seen them since the mid 80's (I think) The reason I went this time is because I live in Standon and thought it would be rude to miss this opportunity.

Anyway, It was not the band I remember but I wasn't expecting them to be - I thought they were good and worth going to see them again in their own right when I get the chance.

Not that anyone is interested, but my time for Hawkwind was 73- 85ish I think, I went to all the London area gigs on every tour so I clocked up a fair few of their gigs over that time.

What I did notice was that Dave Brock is still wearing those striped pants - I hope they are not the same ones :D

I wasn't at the gig but I think I know the ones you mean (ISOS cover + 79 tour prog) He was also wearing them on the recent BBC web films - that's what made me think the same as you!

There's not many people who could get into the same trousers they wore decades ago so if in the unlikely event that they are the same ones, good on him!

Well from what I saw (and can remember from whenever) he is still the same size.

As you pointed out, it's nice that some things don't change

That's a pretty good reason :D

It's been a few years since Exeter was my hometown but I always felt extra-pleased when they played there. And, for the size of the town, they've played there a disproportionate number of times!

I hope they can be persuaded to come back next year and do a longer set

Sorry for not posting sooner but i thought i would jot a few words down just in case anyone was interested. I was at the gig. I went because i hd not seen them outdoors since Reading 86 and its 30 minutes from where i live. As mentioned earlier there were power problems and half an hour spent in total darkness resulted in the gig being delayed. That gave us the chance to see Friendly Fires on the outdoor stage. They were ok in places. Then back up to the Hawkstage. Mr Brock was tuning up when we got back there. Ive never met him so it was good to see him up close. I once met Eric Clapton who said he knew Dave from way back which was nice. The gig was short and the sound was messed up. I dont know but i think maybe the power cut had ruined the settings for the sequencers etc.....Later that night i saw Richard Chadwick and heard they were all congerated in some Teepees. What a life heh! The highlight of th gig was seeing "The Sun Ra Arkestra" I heard of Sun Ra , who is now dead, some years back and bought an album that is so hard to listen to it rivals Trout mask Replica. Anyway i went in as loads of straight dudes were coming out moaning. Some of the band are in their 80,s and they were fantastic. I was dsncing n smiling for 1 1/2 hours. JAZZ man from outer space. Really difficult riddims......Who said black folks cant do weird!

Love n peace Brothers n Sisters.
