possibly the great Bob's three law's of robotic's might be a shade obsolete - the student learns pretty quick after the 'guidance' - strange times!

I'm used to feeling apalled by the behaviour of some people on the internet but this story marks a new low ...

"US man held for sending flashing tweet to epileptic writer"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39315393

What really sickened me was this quote ..
"Mr Eichenwald is reported to have suffered the effects of the seizure for several weeks. He tweeted on Friday that more than 40 people had sent him "strobes" after learning about the case."

Are these people so far removed from reality that the seriousness of their actions don't register amid all the make-believe twittering? Or are they actually psychopaths?

...end quote...

There's no question of the intent of that poster ~ a sickening example of the subhuman level of behaviour that will end up costing its perpetrators, one way or another. An absolutely heinous act ~ and may that vicious coward come to know true remorse.

There is however a consideration perhaps previously and largely unrecognised - if the prosecution in this case does establish legal precedent here...

e.g. :

The Twitter message was no different from "a bomb sent in the mail or anthrax sent in an envelope," Steven Lieberman, a lawyer for Mr Eichenwald, told the New York Times. "It triggers a physical effect "

... then all flashing lights must be banned everywhere ~ including strobing lights on emergency vehicles, since a person can develop epilepsy at any time during their life ~ which means that a police car flasher could send any person who is unaware they have epilepsy into a seizure at any time.

All flashing lights must be banned everywhere ~ full stop.

How much longer can Google keep insisting it's not a media company?

Just watching BBC News doing a piece on Vera Lynn's 100th birthday - not ONE mention of the Anti-heroin Campaign gig at Crystal Palace Park in 1985! Very remiss - call that journalism?!!

Here it comes, it goes "Quark, quark" ...

"LHC: Five new particles hold clues to sub-atomic glue"
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-39333376

Spoiler:
The Large Hadron Collider has discovered new sub-atomic particles that could help to explain how the centres of atoms are held together.

The particles are all different forms of the so-called Omega-c baryon, whose existence was confirmed in 1994.

Physicists had always believed the various types existed but had not been able to detect them - until now.

The discovery will shed light on the operation of the "strong force", which glues the insides of atoms.

The centres of atoms consist of particles called neutrons and protons. They in turn are made up of smaller particles called quarks, which have unusual names.

Those inside neutrons and protons are called "Up" and "Down". These quarks are held together by the nuclear strong force. Physicists have a theory called quantum chromodynamics for how the nuclear strong force works but using it to make predictions requires very complex calculations.

The Omega-c baryon is in the same family of particles as the neutron and proton, but it can be thought of as a more exotic cousin. It too is made up of quarks but they are called "Charm" and "Strange", and they are heavier versions of the Up and Down quarks.

Since the Omega-c particle's discovery, it was thought that there were heavier versions. Its bigger brothers and sisters if you like. Now, physicists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Cern) have found them. They believe that by studying these siblings, they'll learn more about the workings of the nuclear strong force.

Dr Greig Cowan, of the University of Edinburgh, UK, who works on the LHCb experiment at Cern's LHC, said: "This is a striking discovery that will shed light on how quarks bind together. It may have implications not only to better understand protons and neutrons, but also more exotic multi-quark states, such as pentaquarks and tetraquarks."

Prof Tara Shears, of Liverpool University, who also works on the experiment, said: "These particles have been hiding in plain sight for years, but it has taken the exquisite sensitivity of the LHCb to bring them to our attention."

thank's for that Steam - hadn't seen it - 'he was never gonna score'! - the mystical beauty of science/nature continues - experimental equipment these day's are so powerful - what the eye can't see!

There's been a highly stepped-up media campaign about "rampant prescription  opioid abuse by American teenagers and young children"  and it's been going on and building momentum in the media for a few years now.  It's even entered U.S. Congressional legislation proposals already.

http://www.nbcnews.com/health/kids-heal ... ar-n735856

The solution being offered ?

"Alternate drug formulations and delivery systems, such as subcutaneous implants, also should be considered as a means of reducing pediatric exposures," the team wrote."

If they want relief from intractable pain, patients will have no choice other than to submit to bio-implants ~ exactly the way that I warned human implants would begin, I said this way back in 1971.

Another example of the myriad ways in which extremism eats society from the inside out until we wake up one day and find ourselves living in a "prison-culture".

A complex legacy but I think his later peaceful political efforts were sincere. A telling observation from the BBC's report ..

"... his leadership potential was spotted early and he was just 22 when he and Gerry Adams were flown to London for secret talks with the British government: MI5 considered him serious officer material with strategic vision."

Tebbit is, unsurprisingly, still bitter. I actually helped my dad fitting new carpets in the Grand Hotel Brighton in the rebuilding after the IRA bombing. So much damage - it's a miracle more weren't killed.

Testing times ahead for Northern Ireland (Brexit) - I think McGuiness will be sorely missed.
