The government want to build a tunnel for some of the way through the Stonehenge world heritage site which will mean the portals and the approach cuttings inside the heritage site. If they are going to build a tunnel it should start and finish outside the WHS. I know this is off topic but I find I have Stonehenge and Hawkwind linked in my mind. Please check out the link below and support them, thanks.

quizzical ~ there's been no reply here ( ! )

true, the forum has been unusually quiet(er) for some time now ( not entirely surprising, as only eleven new members joined in 2016, the most recent four months ago)
Perhaps forums in general are falling out of fashion in these strange times, else it's just the season.

I'm not in England so I don't imagine my voice counts, concerning local issues there. For what it's worth, sounds like some disregard for an historic site on the part of builders there.

Best wishes, Pete!

It's not the only one - have a look at the similar age Thornborough Henge near me -
54°12'37.19"N 1°33'51.96"W
Two roads go right through it, the northern end was almost lost to gravel extraction.
Like Stonehenge the henges have that curious slight deviation from a straight line.

It's the rest of the world who are odd - I'm normal...
