"Damidge was formed by frontman Al Damidge in South London in 1987. In the band's 1990's peak, members included guitarist Alex Pym (Dream Machine/Zub Zub) bassist Roly Wynne (Ozric Tentacles co-founder) and Drummer Conrad Prince & Keyboardist Christopher "Seaweed" Lennox-Smith.

Amongst their playing history was The Astoria & Brixton Academy (both supporting Ozric Tentacles) as well as a UK tour in 1994 supporting the Ozrics and Zion Train.

Damidge recorded their debut album, 'Fax of Life' in 1994 at Foel Studios, North Wales. However the album was never released due to the band's breakup after Prince and Seaweed left to play with the Ozrics on their US tour.

The demise of the band left its frontman in deep depression and Wynne to a tragic suicide in 1999.

In 2013 Al reformed the band with Pym back on guitar, Mitch Lapute on bass and Cosmo on drums. "

Al and Alex reformed the band a couple of years ago with my old drummer Cos and a great young bass player Mitch. They've just put a video together for their track 'Ritten In Rehab' (all a bit MTV if you ask me  ) so I thought I'd try and drum up a few extra views for them .....

The band have put up a video from their ep launch at the Crypt, Camberwell last year. I mixed the audio multitracks from this gig for them - there's a whole gig of audio but I'm not sure if they'll be doing videos of the entire gig.

Please give me an interesting story about the singer such as he is a really bad PCP user, etc, to help me get into it :)

My fave part: When he referenced the "god given words" :

"good fucking night"

I can imagine!!

Al is clean these days but he did have his problems with smack in the past. Also, not a well man but he's recently on some new drug (of the pharmeceutical variety) which seems to be working well. A real trouper and a great guy.

I thought something seemed a little "(insert your own term)" with him.

That's perfect and I wish him all the best for sure

I always repect the dimorphine people because although my body could probably survive high doses, I am much too fragile to tend to that kind of monkey

Al is a great combination of deeply 'artistic' (indeed, his partner is a successful painter) and decidedly 'non-intellectual'. He's also old-skool punk who's 'been there, done that, made the t-shirt'. :)

best wishes to all - vices are a devil - enjoyable at the time - then one can't 'come down' without them - my prayers

Here's something from the 'Fax of Life' album, recorded in '94 but never released at the time after the band broke up. Mixed and released a couple of years ago, this features Roly and Seaweed of the Ozrics.
