I’ve had a search on here, but can’t see this linked anywhere; I apologise if it has been spotted before.

It’s titled on YouTube as Hawkwind Live 1979-1982, and there is footage that I was unaware of.

It runs for over 2 hours, and beware that it does feature He Who Shall Not Be Named, but it is still worth sitting through to see the band rehearsing with him about 20 mins in.

About 1hour 5mins in (and rather uniquely shot from above) there is a cracking performance of Assault and Battery; Huw in particular is absolutely nailing it - bless him! I would be interested if anyone can identify where and when this gig was.

Think I recognise some from a video that was available in the early 80s, long deleted, never owned a copy.

Some good stuff there - stuff like Needlegun and Assault... always shine but I like 4 piece stuff with Harvey on bass and Huw just drifting off. Like y'say - at his peak. They were a tight outfit.

I'm watching it now. Bringing back some memories. I've definitely seen the rehearsal footage before somewhere.

Also, '79 - '82? More like '81 - '84 surely?? (I'm only about 40 mins in so far)

the first 9:30 of that video proves no other band
has ever ~ or will ever~ come within a hundred
billion light-years of Hawkwind.

Thanks Pip.
Needlegun gave me shivers on the inside of my skull....unapproachable.
After all, In the end, It is you tube and the dates are all f*cked up.
Some material being played wasn't released until 1988 but that's okay.
One ship, one captain, and us the un-dying deck hands.
Fantastic memories man.

Now that a good few of us have watched this, I’m hoping that someone can identify the outdoor gig that begins at 56:50 with setting up on a dome stage.

Ignore HWSNBN, and then we see Huw kicking his heals while sitting on (Andy Anderson’s?) drum riser at 58:10. If that is correct, would this be Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park in June ’83?

Date: 4/6/1983 .............Musicians: Dave Brock ----------Andy Anderson
Town:Cricket St. Thomas......Harvey Bainbridge---------renruT
Venue: Wildlife Park ............Huw Lloyd Langton ---------------Dead Fred
Set: Intro; Coded Languages; Magnu; Dust Of Time; Waiting For Tomorrow; Ghost Dance; Psychedelic Warlords; Utopia; Angels Of Death; Motorway City;
Silver Machine; Brainstorm; Ejection; Shot Down In The Night; Master Of The Universe;
Jam; Master Of The Universe; Sonic Attack; Death Trap

By process of elimination (and without being there) I'd say yes.
That was the only outdoor gig Andy Anderson performed at in 1983.
All other performances including him took place in February that year.
The band lineup matches also.

Yup. I was there (lived in Somerset at the time)
The full gig was available on VHS for a while via mail order from HW merchandising, my video came with a short message from Dave hand written on the sticky labels you were supposed to put on the cassette - he put on the sleeve, and also autographed as well

Brilliant. Hawkwind with Andy Anderson (ex Cure). I saw him with Iggy Pop in 87 and he was great.

Is there any proper live recording available with HW featuring Andy Anderson, apart from this footage?

Speaking of drummers, I thought Clive Deamer was great too. The live version they did of Angels Of Death is one of the most magical HW moments for me...
