I used to have a tape of the gig and I definitely like the exploding machine better than the uncut machine, which got a bit rusty towards the end. @ gavin: you can always blow up the radio itself when things get too bad...

Brings a smile to my face just thinking about it!
I totally agree. Radio 1 would sound much better if it exploded, and perhaps they could explode the long pointless advert breaks on TV into the bargain.

The funny thing about the work radio is that we are now on our third one this year, the others met with some 'unfortunate accidents' The third one has been 'adjusted' several times so that it gets a little closer to the edge of the table. The music is a bone of contention among some of us, one of whom in his early twenties has drop kicked it across the room. His musical tastes run to the sort of genre that has vocals that sound like the 'singer' is having his throat ripped out whilst gargling tar. You can't please all the people all the time but some don't try, and the rest of us have to endure.

I used to work in the pack house at Salvatoris fruit farm, and they used to have Radio Invicta on, which was so bad that it makes radio 1 daytime seem like stockhausen in comparison. I used to make tapes for my walkman with Hawkwind, Ozrics, King Crimson, Floyd, Hendrix etc... to get through the day. Oblivion would have beckoned otherwise. I couildn't destroy the radio because it was popular with most of the staff and I'd have been pulped if I had.
