I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here yet?

There's a new Tim Blake album to be released soon as an MP3 download from his website - RoqueFort, and other Virtual Stories".

There's a taster here:

Oh, I've been waiting for this to emerge. The sample sounds really good, kind of like he's been listening to Schoelling era Tangerine Dream. I'm assuming the solo version of Southern Cross will be on the album as well.

Definently hearing Robert Schroder in there and dare I say Jean Michel Jarre!

Would prefer a deal for it to be released on CD through Atomehenge like the other Blake back log.

sorry but sounds a bit wallpapery to me - i love tims early works with his vocals on - before i spend my money can anyone tell me - are there any vocals on it at all? also will there be a cd as downloads are a bit cheap and a cop out on from the artist - i thought tim belived in real music on real formats - surely this is made in his real french studio with real synths so why ruin it with mp3s? - you can rip them from youtube so whats the point? I want some artwork and imformation for my money..... sorry ..

Respect to Noggi 'Tar, virtual pioneer. The mp3s sound great, Tim's is a pair of ears we can trust..

There's talk of a possible vinyl edition on the download site..

You may find it grows on you. But one thing about Tim is that he never makes two albums that are too similar. I sometimes wish he would, but on the whole it's maybe better that he explores different areas.

No, there aren't any vocals from Tim, but there are some superb female vocals on the last track, Fire Dance.

I agree with you about the lack of a CD. I'd definitely prefer one as well, as it seems many of us would. But this seems to be one of the grim realities of the sad state of the music business. There's talentless crap being released on CD in bucketloads, but people like Tim and many others have to eke out a living on the edges of things. Still, Tim's making good use of the opportunities available and finding the best ways to get his music out there.

Having said that, a more high quality file format would be preferable, and I hope Tim can offer that later. Regarding "you can rip them from youtube so whats the point?" - there's a very important point that if people rip things from YouTube instead of buying them, Tim doesn't get paid. But I'm assuming you mean people will do that if they don't have the incentive of a better quality format, and not that you'd do that.

Anyway, a good album and it's great that it's available at all. If Tim could offer a higher quality format, and even some artwork as well, that would be even better.

I agree about eking out a living and see the points you make - if he cant afford to bulk press a load, id happily pay a tenner for a cd burnt by tim in his studio (from high quality masters) and a postcard with a message from tim or similaer - a proper cottage industry unqiue product...

The vocal issue is a personal one - and the wallpaper comment is what i feel about the mixes ive heard so far - and the ripping of youtube - i just mean id rather listen online to a shoddy quality mix rahter than pay for a 320k mp3....
