By contrast, an ocean away ITW is nowhere near the U.S. Billboard top 200 album chart, though looking at the artists who are selling in numbers it's really no surprise. Same goes for Canada.

If we were in the 1970s it would be a completely different story.

Im not sure how the 'charts' tally where you are at, Barnetquark ~ but in the U.S. it is ranked by album sales ( singles also)
In Canada, they're adding up all physical album sales plus digital and streaming now as well.

I suppose this places independent and smaller label \ limited pressing releases at a point somewhere off in no mans land ~ which is perfect for Hawkwind in a world surrounded by circus ritornelle and cheerleaders on steroids plus auto-tune

Yes Vik Marlow, that's exactly it.
HW hq need to get a single released & swoop into the charts now.
If not for themselves for the youngsters !
"Future Generations Are Relying On Us" Dave Brock once wrote.
They have the power to release 'Ascent' as an unplugged version with bells & whistles. Get it promoted, plug it for radio airplay around the world.
Why Not ?

The UK chart was always physical sales until (relatively) recently when downloads were included. Does it really matter though. Low on the chart, high on the scale.

Eventually we'll be mutated to 'think' the chart positions!

I've been listening to Into The Woods for a few weeks now and think it's brilliant.
Can't comment any further without at least another 20 listens.
Later.

I like it but I have been in an 'away from Hawkwind' mood recently so I've only listened to it maybe 5 or 6 times.
