Hawkwind recently played in Bolton - but was that the first time they ever played there?

I've read a few passing references (like in the Mark Radcliffe book) to bands like HW playing at BIT (Bolton Institute of Technology - now Bolton Univ) in the early 70s - which wouldnt seem unlikely - as they had a lot of underground bands play there. I started at secondary school in 78 in Bolton and the band were very popular - and by 83/84 when I started going to BIT rock/alt disco they were still playing a lot of HW.. so it would quite possible that the hawks had passed through in their early career...

BUT..

I've just has a good scan through Starfarer's gig guide and can find no mention - Blackburn - yes, Preston - yes, Halifax - yes, Huddersfield - yes.. Bolton - NO!!

can anyone shed any light??

Mmmm, yes, but the M5 between Jn28 (Cullompton) and Jn29 (Honiton/airport) is so much better. All those nice Devon mounds to look at :D

I've often wondered why people hoot at me when I reverse up the carriageway.

Discourtesy, that's what I call it.

Re: the Starfarer pages.... I suspect it might be incomplete, when it comes to the early years. I bet Hawkwind played in a few towns and everyone was too stoned to make an admin note of it, after.

There's no sneaking anywhere on the M62. It's just a film set for Police, Camera, Action disguised as a motorway.
