Unfortunately my partner has seen Uncle Rotters Myspace site with and , as I posted on the bands thread, is none too impressed with the "Your an 18 Year old that likes it up the ass" and "fit goths on dicks" Add the Tits of Death ( I know its only a name) and she is horrified that a family festival has stuff like this. I have to say I don't fancy explaining this to the 4, 11 and 12 year olds. She has now banned the kids from coming, which has effectively banned me from coming. So I need some help here. How does it work? Are there different stages? Are parental advisories given out? Can we escape when the "not suitable for little ears" come on. What are other parents doing?
HELP

i wouldn't worry isle of wight last year they had separate stages and there was info signposted on each stage who and what is appearing and when so if you feel that things are too much for the children you can always take them off somewhere, besides they will be far to busy in the childrens area doing various workshops i would think to even care what bands etc are playing hope it works out for you mate Peace Bev x

Sorry about any offence, these bands will be on at night, not in the afternoon when kids are around...Uncle Rotter will be on late at night in the bar stage when most kids will be in bed. No one complained about Tof D last year, most folk liked them so we booked them again, we could move their set till later if it helps..
We don't really believe in censorship....suppose we are just as bad with Angela Android and even Spirit of the Age.
If we judged bands by their lyrics, then Frank Zappa (RIP), Chumbawamba, the Pogues etc etc (all of whom have more explicit lyrics) would be banned. We must admit, we had not noticed those particular lyrics until you pointed them out.......
We are really sorry your wife feels this way, it would be such a shame if you missed the festival because of it. There is loads of stuff for kids and although we haven't checked all the lyrics of all the bands we have booked, hopefully the majority of the sets will be innofensive.
If there is anything we can do to reassure you and your wife, please let us know.
There will be a list of bands and stages and who is on where at what time available to everyone, so you will be able to avoid these 2 bands.
There will probably be about 40 plus bands in the end, and there will always be something else to do if you choose not to be at a certain show.
Hope this goes some way to reassure you..
Apologies

That's a good bit of free advertising, I'll make sure I'm not just monging around in my tent when they're on, even if only to see what rhymes with 'ass'.

Obviously the kids will be asleep alone in their tents when the 'rude' bands come on ....

No apologies needed, Uncle Rotter sound quite a laugh and I recon their act will be nicely OTT. T of D just had an infortunate name that seemed to exaserbate my personal situation, no need to move them at all.
Its all a queston of forwarned is forearmed and I appreciate your ( and festichicks) response, as it has helped me calm the situation. Thanks.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Now who wants to babysit so I can go and see Uncle Rotter

It's a shame that you might have to miss the 'fest for such a reason.
If the event's anything like the earlier ones - especially the first 2 - the kids'll probably wear themselves out running around all day (even the older ones).
I took along a gurlie to the 2nd who had a (then) 6 year-old daughter, and when we went to see the bands she came with us. The music wasn't too loud, folks watched out for kids and she got to kiss a pair of 'real' fairies, which made her weekend. The only comment she made about the music was that she recognised the Levellers as the ones who played the music her mummy listened to - it was the first time that she'd seen a band play that she recognised!
Apart from that, there's usually plenty of music all weekend so it's not hard to avoid stuff which may be 'offensive'. In fact, if you get to see all the stuff you want to see then you'd have done well.
You could always try ....

I gotta say, I'm pretty much on your side on this. They didn't even need a stage then.....
A sunny day, freedom of expression and Hawkwind playing in front of you - no light show, nothing to distract just the music. Bliss.

Thanks for your comments Jim but its OK. The posts from Festichick and the team were enough to get back on the runway.
tweb I'm sure anything will happen and if a few people decide to spend the weekend in the raw, I wouldn't have a problem. I Doubt if they will look as good as they did in the 70's though I also think boundaries have been pushed further and further since then, the language is nothing new or even stuff they haven't heard before, from TV or come to that the playground. Its the content, you have to draw a line somewhere.
Creche idea sounds great, a mass babysit

I just listened to Uncle Rotter. Not a patch on Zodiac Mindwarp but then each to his own!
(sorry - the lyrics made me think of Zode's "Im shooting babies from the end of my dick")
I was listening to a few things recently in the car after picking up the kids from school and nursery. Songs which I've never really thought about the lyrics being offensive because it was only me listening to them but now need to be careful what my kids are hearing!

Hello all.
I'm sorry my first post on this forum is a negative one, but I'm afraid I agree with Alan & Michelle. We saw Uncle Rotter in Lancaster a couple of months ago at an event promoting veganism/vegetarianism. (We actually went because Danse of the Dead were playing and we enjoyed them at last years Hawkfest). I'm afraid the lyrics quoted are fairly mild compared with some of the others we heard - the song title that stuck in my mind was "Don't smoke Crack - Snort It From your Dead Mother's Pussy Instead." Bad taste can be a bit of fun up to a point but there are limits.
