They do sound a bit graphic but (playing Devil's Advocate for a moment) Hawkwind aren't exactly angels themselves. I know they set me off on the path to 'bad' behaviour.

The lyrical content or context of tracks like LSD, Flying Doctor, Valium 10, Motorhead or many others aren't exactly innocent ditties. Orgone Accumulator's about w@nking and Urban Guerilla is a jolly song that paints terrorism in terms of populist spin. Sex, Drugs & Violence.

I wasn't suggesting for a minute that they should be stopped from playing, just warning those who may be offended. They aren't my cucumber sandwich but it IS still a free country (Just!) :D

I have visions of today's kids waiting until the adults have shoved off, and then getting alcopops and ciggies out, and one of them saying, "Here, let's try this powder I nicked off of me dad's mate earlier..."

Unfortunately my partner has seen Uncle Rotters Myspace site with and , as I posted on the bands thread, is none too impressed with the "Your an 18 Year old that likes it up the ass" and "fit goths on dicks" Add the Tits of Death ( I know its only a name) and she is horrified that a family festival has stuff like this. I have to say I don't fancy explaining this to the 4, 11 and 12 year olds. She has now banned the kids from coming, which has effectively banned me from coming. So I need some help here. How does it work? Are there different stages? Are parental advisories given out? Can we escape when the "not suitable for little ears" come on. What are other parents doing?

HELP

i wouldn't worry isle of wight last year they had separate stages and there was info signposted on each stage who and what is appearing and when so if you feel that things are too much for the children you can always take them off somewhere, besides they will be far to busy in the childrens area doing various workshops i would think to even care what bands etc are playing hope it works out for you mate Peace Bev x

Sorry about any offence, these bands will be on at night, not in the afternoon when kids are around...Uncle Rotter will be on late at night in the bar stage when most kids will be in bed. No one complained about Tof D last year, most folk liked them so we booked them again, we could move their set till later if it helps..
We don't really believe in censorship....suppose we are just as bad with Angela Android and even Spirit of the Age.
If we judged bands by their lyrics, then Frank Zappa (RIP), Chumbawamba, the Pogues etc etc (all of whom have more explicit lyrics) would be banned. We must admit, we had not noticed those particular lyrics until you pointed them out.......
We are really sorry your wife feels this way, it would be such a shame if you missed the festival because of it. There is loads of stuff for kids and although we haven't checked all the lyrics of all the bands we have booked, hopefully the majority of the sets will be innofensive.
If there is anything we can do to reassure you and your wife, please let us know.
There will be a list of bands and stages and who is on where at what time available to everyone, so you will be able to avoid these 2 bands.
There will probably be about 40 plus bands in the end, and there will always be something else to do if you choose not to be at a certain show.
Hope this goes some way to reassure you..
Apologies
The Hawkfest Team Sad

So did I for a long while. The beauty of Calvert's writing is he picked up on the ridiculous and made it sublime. He subverts the cosmic sexual energy meaning into a rather rude song about onanism.

If you look at plans for the Accumulator based on Wilhelm Reich's then you see it's basically a small shed, just big enough for one person to sit in on their own. Bearing this in mind, have another listen to Bob's words - a sexual energy machine that is also a "one man isolater" that'll "turn your eyeballs into craters" & "no social integrator"(i.e. you do it on your own, it makes you go blind & it's anti-social). Sheer Genius.

Why raise this again?

As I posted before, thanks to Festichick and "the management", this has all been cleared up. Time to move on and enjoy ourselves.

uncle rotter sounds like a creepy old dude, but you should hear the lyrics and see the show at a GWAR concert.
very offensive, very tongue-in-cheek, very satirical. and a lot of underage kids at the show, too. but i guess GWAR is from antarctica...or is it somewhere in space? i imagine theyll be busy destroying minds elsewhere during hawkfest. but you never know which aliens are going to arrive, do you?

Hello all.

I'm sorry my first post on this forum is a negative one, but I'm afraid I agree with Alan & Michelle. We saw Uncle Rotter in Lancaster a couple of months ago at an event promoting veganism/vegetarianism. (We actually went because Danse of the Dead were playing and we enjoyed them at last years Hawkfest). I'm afraid the lyrics quoted are fairly mild compared with some of the others we heard - the song title that stuck in my mind was "Don't smoke Crack - Snort It From your Dead Mother's Pussy Instead." Bad taste can be a bit of fun up to a point but there are limits.

You see that's funny cos i was at that gig as well and the thing what i took home was that Uncle Rotter was a GOOD rock and roll band, Nothing more , Nothing less, and as for Danse of the dead ( and believe me i don't like to slag bands off) but i was 1 of about 4 people who was left in the room after Rotter had done there stuff and MY GOD they were DULL.

but hey im glad to see rock and roll is still alive

For those who think censorship changes the message - or just have dirty minds.........http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qc6w4SzIUN0& (skip to 0:29 to get past the annoying American at the start)
