"A Belgian minister who cycled to an event to announce investment in bicycle lanes had his own bike stolen.

Ben Weyts, minister of mobility for the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders, had locked his bike to a rack at
Halle railway station, south of Brussels, a spokesman said.

But when he returned half an hour later, he found it had been stolen. The minister then had to call his driver
to pick him up from the station, the spokesman added."

"University buildings were evacuated when a student accidentally made the same highly explosive substance that was used in the Paris terror attacks.

An investigation by Bristol University has found that triacetone triperoxide (TATP) was "unintentionally formed during a routine procedure".

A cordon was set up around the university's chemistry block during the incident earlier this month.

No-one was injured and a controlled explosion was carried out."

that's a very sad story, Steam.
:-(
young bloke too, who had the better part of his life ahead of him.

your mains is at least double of what ours is here ~ though our 110 v is still sufficient to end a life.

I somehow find it vaguely amusing you have a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents over there.
Good idea in principle, but to this Canadian-American, it sounds almost like a sketch out of Monty Pythons Flying Circus. I had a mental flash of patrols of busy-body, elderly-ish, tea-society women running here and there with clipboards, admonishing men on scaffolds and the like. Silly, I know ~ perhaps if the word 'Royal' were dropped off, I wouldn't think of it like that.

A surprisingly small amount of volts could kill you but, at the same time, a static shock of tens of thousands of volts is harmless - it's the current (amps) that kills (a few tens of milliamps through the heart is enough to kill, if memory serves).

I'm just gobsmacked that
a) someone would place a power supply on their chest while in the bath
and
b) can't they just put their phone down long enough to have a bath!!

One for this year's Darwin Awards?

I envision the RSPA as a costumed group of superheroes founded by minor royals with too much time on their hands, too much money ....... but a burning sense of thwarted public service.

For what seems like months now  (if not years),  news media has reported on the legislative battles going on in governments throughout western democratic nations  (which shall here remain unnamed ) over transgender public lavatory  ( restroom ) rights.  In most cases the battle has been bitter, divisive, has cast some public officials under accusations of hate and discrimination, and has created a seething public debate over control of governing-bodies.

When I lived in a metropolitan environment, I used to watch entire buildings - empty and abandoned -  which stood on properties that had changed ownership, get demolished in the space of three days and within a following two weeks watch an entirely new structure be erected and opened for business.

How long can it take to install a new restroom in an existing building ?

Or change a sign on a restroom door from "Women" or "Men" to "Unisex" and install a lock on the door ?

Or to convert multiuser restrooms into single-occupancy facilities and end this stupid public discourse over who gets to p#ss and where?

If anything, the ongoing, unresolved debate just goes to prove that politicians, in general, are among the dumbest human beings on the planet.

A similair discussion was had when I was working for the military, and it was made legal to be a gay soldier. As with most bases, we had a very well equipped gym. The question was which changing room does a gay person use. Men and women change separately for reasons that are obvious. So does a man who likes men change with the men?. Discuss...
