It was Life on Mars that came to my mind when I saw the thread title.

Life on Mars had several Hawkwind tracks:
Brainstorm
Silver Machine
Urban Guerilla
You Shouldn't Do That
Ejection (OK - Robert Calvert but it IS Hawkwind in all but name)

And yet the soundtrack album doesn't feature any of those songs:

Introduction (Dialogue) - King Of The Jungle
David Bowie - Life On Mars?
Roxy Music - Street Life
Wings - Life & Let Die
ELO - 10538 Overture
John Kongos - Tokoloshi Man
Atomic Rooster - Devils Answer
T Rex - Rock On
Free - Little Bit Of Love
The Upsetters - Jungle Lion
Brief Interlude - Dialogue Armed b********
Sweet - Blockbuster
The Faces - Cindy Incidentally
Anandar Skankar - Snow Flower
Slade - Coz I Luv You
Mott The Hoople - One Of The Boys
Lindisfarne - Meet Me On The Corner
Frankie Miller - I Can't Change It
Thin Lizzy - Whiskey In The Jar
Audience - I Had A Dream
Uriah Heep - Traveller In Time
Nina Simone - I Wish I Knew
Epilogue (Dialogue) - I Want To Go Home

I guess most of the Hawkwind tracks would be considered too long, but they could've at least put Silver Machine or Urban Guerilla on there.

I thought you knew they only made two series? Ashes To Ashes is series "3" of Life On Mars. Not that I watched it mind you, it always seem to clash with something.

Walking into school one lunchtime in the mid-eighties to the sounds of Shade Gate wafting from an upstairs classroom. For some reason I lacked the curiosity to find out who was the only other person in the world (or so I thought at the time) who liked this band

From way back when...

A trailer for some series on BBC2 about 10 years ago used Time Centre by Mike Moorcock - heard it a few times.

Some Channel 4 documentary about 7 years ago had Goat Willow on it.

Hearing 'I do not know what track from Do-Re-Mi' at my neighbour's. Needless to say we exchanged loads of music afterwards. And I got him into being a SpaceCadet...
