Agree, but it took me many years to know that Calvert do the Sonic Attack on Space Ritual Maybe it was listening from when I was a teenager before the ears go to (ahem!) pot. Of course this was mainly 70's stuff. Try and tell if a track is Bainbridge or Brock around 1990 and forget it!

I find it strange that no-one's mentioned Lemmy's counterpoint harmonies (is that the right phrase?).
I think his vocals really make certain tracks stand out - listen to You'd Better Believe It for a great example, but almost any track off Doremi, SR, HotMG, 1999 Party or WotEoT with his harmonies sound fantastic.
Given time, that boy could go far.

Thats a good point jim. There are other 'backing' singers that really add to HW tracks - Adrian Shaw on Quark and Richard Chadwick many years later, especially electric Tepee.

What about Jamie Mandelkau on Kadu Flyer? Lene Lovitch on Angela Android? Neihardt and Briget Wishart on Black Elk Speaks? Vic Perrin on Void City? Huw Lloyd Langton on Moonglum? The alien on Blue Dreamer? Moorcock on Coded Languages? Harvey Bainbridge on T.V. Suicide? Ron Tree on Xenomorph or Hippy? Alan Davey on Neon Skyline? Nik Turner on Dying Seas? Keith Hayle on Dangerous Visions? Stacia's backing vocals on Silver Machine? Lemmy on Lost Johnny? Richard Chadwick on Digital Nation? The Ladbroke Grove Hermaphroditic Voice Ensemble on Catch a Falling Starfighter? Etc....... The list is endless.

other people seem to be able to sing calvert songs quite easy.bridget and ron tree especially do them well and dibs seems to be going along that path now. i dont think you can beat the captains voice and his harmonies with richard are getting better all the time.ron is up there as a great vocalist and i thought alan daveys vocals improved with time with hawkwind (some of the early bootlegs with him singing were quite weak) even though his vocals went a bit lemmyish towards the end i thought he and brock sounded good together. i always thought nik had one style of singing but his voice has never changed if you listed to otherworld.

I always thought he brought a sense of much needed energy to the band in the mid to late 90's and I always enjoyed seeing him live. His vocal contributions on the 2000 Yule ritual (Flying Doctor and Spirit of the Age) are excellent. I know he had a problem being seen as a Calvert vocal clone but he seems happy enought to carry it on now and why not.
