Does anyone know if it is possible to buy anywhere Hawkwind related pictures. I am decorating a room and fancy Hawkwind pictures to hang on the wall, either album covers or early black and white pictures of the band.

did you try P.M.-ing Kris & Dave ?
I have found in the past they are good about replying ~ I don't know if they merch any pics, but it'd be worth a query, guessing if they did it may profit them directly ~ surely a helpful booster.

What kind of thing are you after? There's thousands of snaps in the public domain, as are the album covers, etc. It's cheap to get posters printed - I got one done by an online company for under a tenner last year inc. delivery.

If it's gig posters or collectables you're after then it's a matter of watching ebay or having a look at the Hawky Swap Shop over on Facebook, but be warned there's some avid collectors out there. (I've had one guy chasing me with 500 nicker to buy a 1971 poster that cost me 80 notes).

There's quite a few things on Amazon and no doubt ebay, but they do generally look a bit small and disappointing. There used to be great posters back in the eighties, I had a massive Hall of the Mountain Grill Poster that my local record shop got in.

Also if you're looking for photos of the band there's always photographer Jorgen Angel's site www.angel.dk

Specifically there is his Hawkwind section:

I have no idea of the prices though. Features Stacia quite prominently...

In terms of covers, you can get a signed print of the back cover of Hall of the Mountain Grill from the artist himself (David Hardy) from his website:

There's also Peter Pracownik who did the cover for Take Me To Your Leader and Ian Abraham's biography of the band:

Thanks for your replies.
I just fancy having some framed Hawkwind related pictures hanging on the wall. HOTMG or DOREMI album cover for instance would be good. I can find some great black and white photos of the early band by searching google images but I don't know what the quality would be like if enlarged and printed. I am looking for sensibly sized photos which I can frame and not posters.

I was once told that a 35mm frame at a decent ISO was equivalent to 24 megapixels and would blow up to A3 and still be reasonable print quality - good enough to display for non-photgraphers. The pic I mentioned above was taken by my better half's son with an SLR, reasonable resolution, and blew up to A1 easily. A quick google revealed this (I'm a dunce regarding megapixels. I just know my SLR takes images that save as 4meg or so and these blow up excellently) https://photographyicon.com/enlarge/

If you're gonna print to A4 or less than any reasonable resolution image should do. If you search google etc. then use the search option for image size medium or large and these should do. You can try looking at it using image viewer then zooming into, the approx size to see how clear it looks (Ctrl and +, or roll the mouse wheel normally). Sometimes grainy adds charm. The space ritual era stuff is raw and grainy but looks fantastic.

The problem with images in the "public Domain', ie of the internet is that they are invariably 72dpi. Thats the default quality for web work. Print quality standard is 300dpi. They will also be srgb colour space, default for web,,lowest quality, print would tend to be RGB or prophoto RGB.
It depends what you are expecting, but to print from web sourced images is to create a print from something that is not presented as an optimum print format.

Agreed. I've got access to a couple of A0 printers at work and train students how to produce academic posters, print promotional stuff, etc. and it's alarming how quickly good looking images can become blocky when blown up. But if it's just for admiration on a wall then just using a large/high res public image should be fine. Photo quality would really mean good source, probably paid-for.

Ebay is always worth watching as some gems pop up. How about this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hawkwind-Man-1999-Party-Axe-Victim-2-sided-Vintage-1974-Rock-Poster-15x10-71-/322330305522?hash=item4b0c6223f2:g:jeIAAOSwVFlUIFys

A 1974 '1999 Party' poster cropped from a poster book (so it's good quality and glossy). If you look at the 'similar items' section there's 2 originals available - £65 and £125 plus postage. If you're not an avid collector it's a no-brainer.

Oh, and these are quite cool.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-DIFFERENT-4X6-PHOTOS-OF-HAWKWIND-IN-CONCERT-1973-/122216310082?hash=item1c74a8e542:g:j9sAAOSw~OVWyj-c

vikmarlo was having problems uploading from his phone. I checked and everything worked ok for me using my laptop. It seems to have started since the forum went down for a while a couple of weeks back (apparently due to 'hardware problems' according to freeforums).

[edit] Here's the discussion of the problem ...
