Got mine this morning! Hadn't realised it'll be carnival weekend. Haven't decided if this is a good or a bad thing, it's probably both. I like earth shattering bass from Dub Reggae sound systems, but dislike being unable to get down streets, riots etc.

PLEASE NOTE.

The Notting Hill Carnival is the previous weekend, 23rd & 24th August, HW gig is the 29th,

Took a tip from Capt Spacelord, and booked in Notting Hill gate hotel. £62 for triple room inc b/fast. It"s looking good with Hawk members allready.

I always thought it ran officially on the Sunday and Monday of the bank holiday. I've had a quick trawl around the web and seen some unconfirmed dates of 23rd & 24th, but it would be quite exceptional for it to be on those dates. No doubt we'll find out soon, butI'm going come what may!

Just booked two tickets.
Myself and my mate will be carrying some compact sleeping bags and are going to be homeless for the night, well untill the trains start running again back to portsmouth anyway.

By the way the recent gig I went to at the Brook Southampton. As allways Hawkwind were spot on brilliant, shame about the venue though we were packed in like sardines and there was no room to be yourself :(

Cant wait until august roll on

Alf

Nothing to worry about carnival-wise, having attended Notting Hill Carnival many times I can assure you that there is not much going on friday or saturday - there are some steel bands and drumming competitions, but no parades and no mass carnival. That starts Sunday with the Children's parade and concludes on Monday - there will be a lot of setting up going on Saturday but not many people!

Alan, wasn't sure if you already had a ticket, got mine for Saturday a couple of days ago. If you do manage to go I was going to offer a bed to crash at mine. Let me know .

Booked my ticket on Sunday and spread the word to my schoolmates who used to go to Hammersmith Odeon, Edmonton Sundown etc in the 1970s, could be a school reunion at the gig.
In those good old days we used to dress up in capes and masks, my mate and his son fancy doing that again, I wasn't so sure but now the forum points out it's carnival so we'll probably get away with it!
Anyone out there from Queens School want to meet up on the Friday?
