Oops I see I missed your question about XISOS

My answer is this, and just to be clear, I no longer consider myself any (insert own term) on Hawkwind gear due to age and stress, and lack of money these days.

My answer is I would say LP pressings IMPROVED from the Liberty to Fame so long as you get lucky with no defects

This FAME issue is the only one I now have and it plays SWEET

With regard to mastering from one press to another I am both unqualified technically and also too much of a fan.
I don't like being without anything, if I had a choice

You are very patient Mike 8)
I can't answer the original question re: SM; I don't know the answer.
Too many variables & versions. Fortunately I don't care either.

However now you're onto 'HAWKWIND' the only copy I now have is the 1980 picture disc in die-cut sleeve.
It sounds great as it should & that's enough !
Experts, Pah!

My only copy of the 1st album is the 'Rock File' version, never owned one with the original trippy lizard-beings. I keep thinking I should maybe pick up a copy on CD ... then I keep forgetting about it. :)

In answer to the original questions, there are 149,597,870,723 discrete versions of Silver Machine.

But there's only one Lemmy.

[edit] I DO have it on CD now! I bought the 'Your Captain is Dead' box with all the UA albums (and original mastering as well).

Just spoke with Pierre and good news:
he says Orange vinyl (debut LP) is indeed at the top of the sound and playback.

he says his Liberty 80's reissue is very best and this is about second

so anyway, if me I would say
Maybe if German copy is superb condition I get that, but otherwise I get orange reissue.

Really depends if you are fine with reissue or not.

seems like you might be
I certainly would be if it wasn't my favorite band, etc

Great Mike! (and guys)

So, yes, I don't have nothing against reissue, but sound is important to me.

1. So, playback sound issue, best is Liberty from 80's or this orange reissue, only probobly Liberty is from analog source and orange from digital.

2. In search od space: you say Fame/EMi or 2000 reissue is bingo!

Ok. thank you. I will think about it which one will be.

Now it is the exclusive Frank Arkwright mastering copy, is, so far, unique, 1 of a kind, and is increased in value thanks to you and as of now.

Please ask him if he has anything left from the experience lying around for my collection and why he did not do the Space Ritual

No Rockfile issue currently in my kollektion, thanks for having me "covered" :)

BTW, that too, is subject to the g.a.t.t.I.E.M. :)

The problem for me with those Liberty & most other re-issues, is the shitty barcodes that are printed into the sleeve design.

That is SUCH SUCH SUCH a great point and I almost posted about it last night but decided to let that go in light of ya'lls ability to be patient with me :P lol

To me, while they have come far, the issue is still horrific and the only solution I have been able to think is if they could reduce it onto spine some sooner day??

The Liberty/FAME issues are also fairly thin wax, so I think that means reduced bass....

Interesting thing I found out. Liberty reissue of first album from 1984 is mastered at The Penthouse which is part of Abey Road where Orange reissue was mastered. That probobly means that they could have analogue source there. But did they use it on orange release or not we will find out if I get reply on email. But all this (abey conection and this engineer) is proof that orange vinyl is not bad sound at all like Mike reported from Pierre. Only now is the personal taste, analogue source or not. Orange is remastered for this release so, dont know....
