Hello fellow Hawkfans,
Basically, I'm determined to see Hawkwind this year. I've seen them twice before, and damn it I WILL see them again. I'm located in a village about 12 miles away from Exeter, and, unfortunately, Hawkwind arn't playing there this year. The closest they are playing is Bristol and Falmouth.
Bristol would be closer, but I don't want to be hanging around those streets at night, so I thought I'd go down on the train to Falmouth, watch the gig (which is only a few blocks away from the station), and then get the train back up at 6ish in the morning. It'd be a good day out, an adventure to see the Captain and his men, and I'd far rather wait around Falmouth than Bristol at night!
The problem is, I'm 15.... and my mum is 'worried about me'. Does anyone know how I can persuade her??? I'll have a mobile on me to call her at intervals and stuff, and I'm a mature guy.....
Or I can just show her this thread and any support I get as like, a petition for it.....
Cheers,
Haz.

Well, I'm over 50 and I'd still prefer Falmouth to Bristol, at night. Country lad, me...
What's your ma's main area of concern, the 'hanging around,' or the attending a rock gig?
If it's the former, then I'd suggest a B&B. Falmouth in December will be a bit nippy at 3am, even with global warming! An off-season B&B won't cost very much.
If it's the latter then tell her Hawkwind audiences are laid-back.

It's the hanging around and distance really. Though I've been for 5am walks (I like doing stuff at odd hours), and she usually allows me.
When I was 11, I went to see Motorhead in Plymouth, and she took me and sat at the back going deaf. Both times she's dropped me off to Hawkwind in the past (Phoenix and Lemon Grove in Exeter), she ended up buying a ticket at the door and watching the whole gig - and even quite enjoying it! Ever since I've heard her humming Allah's Assasins on the rare occasion, and, I persuaded my band to cover Who's Gonna Win The War, and so obviously I've been practising that on bass for ages, and she knows that song note for note now it seems!! she's quite liberal about the music side of things. "I'm a responsible parent" she says.... huh.
Don't you have to be 18 to stay in a B&B?
Cheers,
Haz.

I've asked a couple of friends, and the answer seems to be 'yes.'
However, if you pick a B&B where adult HW fans are staying, then it seems you can have a room if one of them says they're responsible for you. Sort of like a family or something. I'll be staying in a B&B and I daresay others will also.
One thing I wonder about, though. Accepting responsibility has some significance in law. I know what 15-year-olds can be like, getting pissed and honking up everywhere!

Yeah, I understand completely. To be honest, I don't mind waiting around.
I was inspired by this 17 year old I saw at Space Ritual a few months ago.
By the way, I'm quite a big guy, and amongst my youthful tribe, I'm officialy the King of Cider, having won the cider chug every time yet, including against a 22 year old! YEAH! So getting pissed is no biggy for me haha.
Nah I'll just try and let my mum let me hang around. If anyone is reading this and supports my support for the Hawks, please support me by just saying so on this thread, and if I show my mum, she may let me!
Cheers,
and thanks Graham,
Haz.

Ummm... right.
OK, folks: who wants to be held legally (and possibly financially) responsible for the post-Hawkwind conduct of a 15-year-old cider-chugger

We do understand your predicament, gig-going and public transport do not make good bed fellows in my experience, especially in rural areas

Tell me about it. I don't get why they chose bloody Falmouth? Surely somewhere a bit more accesible (Plymouth, Exeter).
Plymouth would be ideal for all. Accesible from virtually anywhere in the westcountry, and it's a city with a good transportation hub which would offer much more conveinience to a port town on a branch line in the middle of Cornwall! Seriously, Falmouth? I was thinking, being it their 40th anniversary it might be Plymouth Pavilions or Exeter University.....

No, of course not. When I was 15, I'd have rejected that idea totally.
I was thinking more of achieving an objective (getting you into a B&B) - sort of like when people sign someone else into a club, or walk past the doorman and say "He's with me."
That sort of thing.

Yeah I see.
Well, I'll just dordle. God hopes I can see the Hawks!
Ya know, in my head, I've got this classic image - I end up meeting Dr Brock and have a few fags, then Dibsy asks me to be his roadie, I join the Hawkwind road crew.... ah, a happy alternative to my GCSEs.....
I have the visione every time I go see a band....
I just hope they do Hassan I Sabbah

Ah, the one song we were discussing a few weeks back that most of us are rather tired of hearing and would not mind if they dropped it from the set!

I'm more tired of Silver Machine and Masters probably..... Masters of the Universe is a great song to jam to, but hearing it loses it's touch after a while. Still a great song, but I rather hear Hassan
