Tin foil and sticky tape!

"That blade was the cause of many a prang
In the early days of stick and string.
I am the gremlin.
I was there.
Making mischief in the air
And always will be wherever man
Flies in the face of Creation's plan.
Creation's plan."

New Horizons captures Kerberos at last...

Image

"The newly released image of Kerberos was acquired by New Horizons' Lorri camera from a distance
of just under 400,000km. The picture incorporates a number of views and has been processed to
recover as much detail as possible."

Fog in a Martian canyon ...

This is one photo from a new exhibition at the Natural History Museum - "Otherworlds: Visions of our Solar System"

"Embark on a journey through space with this photographic exhibition by Michael Benson, featuring original music by Brian Eno – launching 22 January.

Otherworlds will explore the beauty of our solar system and demonstrate that the visual legacy of six decades of space exploration constitutes a visually stunning, important chapter in the history of photography.

Raw data provided by the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) and European Space Agency (ESA) missions has been painstakingly processed and assembled for public display.

Created by artist, curator and writer Michael Benson, the 77 composite images on display represent a joining together of art and science"

And then there were nine (again)? .....

Image

Intriguing possibility of a true 'ninth planet' with a mass around 10 times that of the Earth.

fascinating !
if found it could end up being farther out than dwarf-planet Sedna,
which swings out to a distance of 936 AU, or 1.4x(10 to the 11th power) km.

More spectacular planetary imagery on the way from NASA this year ! ! ! !

Launching from Earth in 2011, the Juno spacecraft will arrive at Jupiter in 2016 to study the giant planet from an elliptical, polar orbit. Juno will repeatedly dive between the planet and its intense belts of charged particle radiation, coming only 5,000 kilometers (about 3,000 miles) from the cloud tops at closest approach.

Juno's primary goal is to improve our understanding of Jupiter's formation and evolution. The spacecraft will spend a year investigating the planet's origins, interior structure, deep atmosphere and magnetosphere. Juno's study of Jupiter will help us to understand the history of our own solar system and provide new insight into how planetary systems form and develop in our galaxy and beyond.

Juno's principal investigator is Scott Bolton of Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., manages the mission. Lockheed Martin Space Systems of Denver, Colo., [ built ] the spacecraft. The Italian Space Agency, Rome, [ contributed ] an infrared spectrometer instrument and a portion of the radio science experiment.

For more information about Juno, visit http://www.nasa.gov/juno.

^ought to come in handy for the pioneers
whilst on their day-spelunking excursions ~
what is really needed is a radar-aquifer projection
for updates on sinkholes. Whomever they send up
there will undoubtedly be named the bravest soul
in history !
